There are already games that have annoying open pvp with full loot options, and you see not that many people play them. Open PvP is nothing more then another tacked on game option that does nothing more then artificially lengthen game time which people easily abuse and exploit.
We are safe in TERA because of 2 things:
1) wowgold carebears got next fresh copy of their life called RIFT, so maybe they wont come to TERA.
2) We will have seperate servers PvP and PvE, so i hope they will go to PvE server.
Feel free to PK Mr.Nox but I can see in your post you are full of self-confidence and you think only like KILLER. Try think like VICTIM when you join PvP server for PK and you are unable to lvl up because you are killed over and over again by someone stronger than you. PK penality in TERA is not hard, much better than full-drop known from other games.
Safe zones are needed at early game stage but i would also low down it from lvl 40 to 30 because then is hard to find free spot even with switching between 3 available channels and I would PK some of people around.
Games with open world PvP are nothing more then an excuse to ruin other peoples enjoyment for very little gain if any. “A sense of danger” That is a big load of BS. I play games to have fun. You can defend it as much as you want and even if you come up with any good points I can retort with points just as reasonable.
As a matter of a fact i always play a support swtor power leveling role in mmos, yet i love open pvp and always participate. I don't think you could call me griefer as I usually can't even kill someone on my own (no DPS ftw).
Elementalist choice of weapons for PvP
Which weapon combo do you think will be best for PvP? In the scepter video, it is obviously a very skilled PvPer with a very good knowledge of the game, so there must be a good reason for him to use those weapons..
BUT, it seems like total biscuit is doing a TON more dmg than the other guy with his staff.. (2k fireballs, AOE), while the other guy hits 500 with flamestrike.. The other guy does have rock armor, a healing phoenix, and a knockdown, but he misses out on a bubble, flaming retreat, lava aoe, etc.
I don't think there is one particular weapon combo that is “best” for all situations. The important thing in GW2 is, that you can switch roles on the fly, by switching weapons or (in the case of the elementalist) attunements. One moment you may want to be a ranged damage dealer using the staff, the next you may want to get into closer range to take the pressure away from a team mate who is in trouble, so you switch to scepter/focus or dagger/dagger… you may even switch from damage to support skills if the situation requires that to help out your team. And with the four attunements you have available to your (fire/air/water/earth), each with their own set of weapon skills, you have a wide range of options to cover all the different situations. Each weapon set has its own uses.
Also, note that flamestrike is not a staff skill but a scepter skill… yes, you don't want to be exposed to the long-ranged staff skills for a long time… you will want to get up close and attack that ele face to face… and force him to switch to a weapon set that is more useful up close.
We need open world pvp for guild wars
Guild Wars can have good pvp, as long as it’s open world. I say this because it would make guilds themselves more ideal, and it would bring a lot more players in that enjoy pvp. It is something to seriously look at. Sure pve can be fun, but the real fun comes from fast paced pvp – and having good balanced battles set up for you is nice, but creating battles or having them become created is what brings games like WoW loyal players.
keep in mind there is “WorldvWorldvWorld” PvP which sort of simulates what you’re looking for. Or, since I see you’ve played AoC, it’s like Sieges and mini objectives and some version of Bori that didn’t suck and didn’t actually punish you for PvPing all in one big map.
I enjoy world PvP, but imo the way GW2 sets it up it’s going to simulate that very well. You just won’t have people sending you “lolfag” tells (or questioning the size of your manhood) when PvP happens, because they will be in that zone specifically to PvP.
I’d also disagree that it’s PvP servers that creates WoW’s loyal fanbase. Imo it’s mostly time invested and lower system requirements.
The only way for open PvP would be order of whispers vs Durmand thingie vs Vigil. That again would be silly when, i.e. when you join vigil and your friend from the early maps joins the order of whispers you would have to fight each other.
